Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) will tap some 70 MB of bandwidth from regional internet service providers (ISP) to substitute for capacity lost to its damaged undersea cable.



Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) will tap some 70 MB of bandwidth from regional internet service providers (ISP) to substitute for capacity lost to its damaged undersea cable. In a statement on Tuesday SLT said it is currently negotiating with other regional ISPs to restore the internet services and hopeful to restore partial internet services by August 26.

“Once the internet service is restored effect to the customers due to the fault of SMW III will be eased,” the statement said.

The communications services giant was negotiating for 34 MB of bandwidth from SingTel through the SEA ME WE 2 cable, with the deal due to close at the end of the working day on Tuesday.

However, with testing on the spare capacity already underway, SLT was still at the negotiating table with SingTel.

SLT officials on Wednesday said the 34 MBs were most likely to be available from midnight tonight.
