Sri Lanka's truce monitors this week declared that the ceasefire was "not currently in danger" despite fears of war raised by peace broker Norway, financial backer Japan and the two main protagonists themselves. The best news story since the ceasefire Agreement (CFA) went into effect in February 2002 was not only distorted, but suppressed by the media, according to a statement of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM).

Sri Lankans as well as the international backers of the peace process were assured by the SLMM that war was not anywhere on the horizon even if the Tigers take to the skies.

"...the message of the SLMM is that the CFA (ceasefire agreement) is not currently in danger," the statement said, but did not specify how the situation had improved since the previous SLMM statement 81 days earlier.
