Sri Lanka to set up new public-private funded university

Aug 02, 2017 (LBO) – Cabinet nod has been received to establish an international level university in Sri Lanka under a public-private partnership model. Accordingly, the cabinet has approved a proposal submitted by the Prime Minister to set up a non-profit oriented company limited by guarantee to initiate the process. In the beginning, the university will consist of an engineering science school and a business school.

The government intends to receive help from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of California, Berkeley and other top rank universities in the world for this purpose. This will be established as a public sector and private sector partnership in order to attract private investments.
