“This is not the first time that I have issued a COPE report, there have been many other instances and the UNP has praised me for it,” “I am ready to face the consequences if I have done anything wrong.” He made these comments while addressing a gathering at the Communist Party Office in Colombo recently. Earlier Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the former COPE Chairman had produced a hoax report under the guise of COPE sub-committee report.

Trading in bonds is a complicated business which even some bankers don’t really understand. The question is why was Ranil in a hurry to appoint three party lawyers to inquire into this . Ideally at least two members of the inquiring committee should have in-depth knowledge of the subject.
Ranil was supposed to be the rare clean guy in Politics. But with his choice of the Finance minister and the handling of the Bond issue begs the question, Are there clean guys remaining in Politics?
