June 19, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake says former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is afraid of him and evading the debate against him.
“I see that Mahinda Rajapaksa is afraid, inexpert and doesn’t want to attend this debate,” Karunanayake charged.
“Since Mahinda Rajapaksa is not coming, I’ll debate with Bandula on next Tuesday and show how they destroyed the country.” Karunanayake told reporters Friday.
The debate will be broadcast through national television, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
Former Education Minister Bandula Gunawardhana earlier challenged Minister Karunanayake to attend an open debate on the status of the economy and its policies.
“We will also expose the details of the controversial bond issue through this debate.” Bandula Gunawardhana said.
Finance Minister Karunanayake accepted the debate saying that he will only have the debate with the former Finance Minister who was also the President of last regime.
