Sri Lanka’s Marxist JVP nominates Handunnetti and Mayadunne to national list

JVP-nomination

Aug 20, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Marxist JVP on Thursday nominated their long time politburo member Sunil Handunnetti and former auditor general S.C. Mayadunne to the national list.

Sunil Handuntetti who had led the JVP campaign in the Matara district has lost his parliamentary seat at the recently concluded general election.

Speaking to LBO, JVP politburo member Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said it is a decision arrived after extensive discussions.

“Actually JVPers in the country wanted Handunnetti in the new Parliament. It’s indeed a decision taken on behalf of the country,” Jayatissa told LBO a short while ago.

Former auditor general S.C. Mayadunne is a leading good governance activist.

However there is a widespread criticism over the appointment of former Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti back to Parliament by kicking out their national list candidate Attorney Krismal Warnasuriya.

There were also reports that JVP politburo has been split over the appointment of a defeated candidate even though Dr. Jayatissa categorically refused it.

As per certain reports there has also been an attempt to appoint defeated Colombo district candidate K.D Lalkantha to Parliament through the national list.
