Apr 05, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s ruling United National Party on Tuesday carried out several changes in party positions, although there were no significant changes to the line up.

The UNP Working Committee appointed Primary Industries Minister Daya Gamage as Senior Deputy Chairman of the party by abolishing the existing National Organizer post.

Minister Daya Gamage’s wife, Deputy Minister of Petroleum Anoma Gamage has been appointed as the President of Lak Vanitha Peramuna.

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has been appointed as the President of UNP controlled Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya in addition to his Deputy General Secretary post and Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena as the President of National Youth Front.

Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando has been appointed as the President of Ceylon National Estate Workers Union.

However, the UNP Working Committee has not abolished the Housing and Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa’s Deputy Leader post as speculated earlier.
