Ravi K justifies Insurance corporation MD’s appointment

June 17, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, justifying the appointment of T.
M.R. Bangsa Jayah brother-in-law of the Minister says that it’s better to appoint a go getter rather than an inefficient professional.
Jayah was appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation after the new administration took over on the January 08th this year.

“I have nothing to do with it,” Ravi Karunanayake told LBO.
“In insurance you have to appoint go getters rather than ineffecient people and the revenues have increased 35 percent for the past four months – What more do you want?”

“You should see how efficiently the Insurance Corporation runs now.”

The Corporation is an institution coming under the purview of Karunanayake as the Finance Minister.

Bangsa Jayah has served as a Sergeant of Sri Lanka Police and is the brother of Minister Karunanayake’s wife.

According to Sri Lanka Insurance website, (http://www.
srilankainsurance.com/news/93.php),
“Mr. T.M.R. Bangsa Jayah is a retired commissioned Police Officer, who has experience in the Police service for 29 years. During his career with the Police Department he worked as the Chief Security Officer for the Deputy Speaker and North-East Governor. He is a product of St.Anne’s College, Kurunegala and has studied further in Aquinas College, Colombo.
During his school period he has excelled in sports including Cricket and Soccer. He is a member of School Cadetting Team and has held the rank of Company Sergeant Major. After his schooling he has completed his First In Laws at the Law Faculty, Colombo. Mr. Bangsa Jayah has experience in the construction industry for more than 15 years and he has been a principal partner in a well known piling company.

However no professional qualification were mentioned on his profile.

The former Rajapakse regime was also accused of turning the country into a family business, appointing relations and friends in to government authorities.

Price per perch in Gampaha Rs 12 Million ??? looks pretty unreasonable, LBO should get someone to check these things before publishing.

I fully agree.
A plus point is that with so many ‘high value’ rooms the prices will drop.
