Sri Lanka’s JVP files petition with Human Rights Commission against MR
July 17, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Marxist JVP on Friday filed a petition with the Human Rights Commission against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s use of state vehicles and security.
The petition filed by JVP Kurunegala District team leader Namal Karunaratne points out that the human rights of other candidates (Right to equality) are being violated by former President’s use of state owned properties.
However Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya told reporters yesterday that it is not possible to reduce security provided for a former president even though he is engaged in another activity.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe earlier told Parliament that former President Rajapaksa is being accorded maximum security and facilities.
Rajapaksa has been provided 105 members from the Police, 14 officers from the Army and another 90 of other designations., one motor car, three land cruisers, three defenders, two double cabs, two signal cabs, four trucks and two buses.
Wickremasinghe also mentioned Parliament that Rajapaksa had taken two Benz cars along with him which are the best High Security Benz cars in Sri Lanka.
Apart from that he has a high security BMW jeep, Wickremasinghe said.

You need to mop up rupee liquidity when it raises its head, and increase policy rates gradually, to maintain financial stability. Yes, interest rates going up is not good for corporate debt growth and bank lending (which will trigger more imports), but it is better than the alternative. Secondly you should not use reserves to defend the rupee, and you should not print money for consumption purposes and political expediency. The inflation that this creates will completely negate the benefits given, and there will be people on the streets. I hope the government has got good economic advisors. When they get IMF, China, India, FDI or Belgian parked (?!) USD they should release it to the market rather than shore up CB reserves. Belweather and your own Fussbudget (are they the same person?) were right all along.
How can you enhance market liquidity with a MOU? Are they trying to sell state enterprises in the stock market to Chinese investors? Such an irony after claiming Chinese investment in infrastructure as selling the country to the Chinese. Shameless irresponsible creature these politicians.
JVP is not bankrupt because they are straight forward and honest.
Why is this bankrupt party JVP so hell bent on trying to defeat Rajapakse and allow Ranil to regain power? What benefits have the JVP received or expecting to receive from a Ranil led government?
