India Considers Road Bridge To Sri Lanka With ADB Funding
July 19, 2015 (LBO) – India is planning a feasibility study for a bridge that connects India and Sri Lanka which may cost .
6 billion, Indian media reported.
Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, said he had discussed this with the chairman of Asian Development Bank and the development bank was prepared to finance it.
“The distance between Dhanushkodi in Rameswaram and the Sri Lankan boundary is about 23 kms. A sea-bridge would help in increasing the trans-SAARC road and transport network,” Gadkari was quoted as saying by Indian news service DNA.
This bridge could be a combination of sea-bridge and underwater tunnel where the underwater tunnel allows the passage of ships across.
This project is a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Indian road connectivity to neighbouring countries, he was reported as saying.

Oh my old friend Kumarage. This guy just ruined the whole transportation in the country doing nothing for the last 20 years. What has he done to the transportation rather than just preaching along, doing many many consultancies and sabotaging whenever he is not consulted. What has he done been the NTC chairman for several terms. Only notable thing he did was the park and ride which was a utter failure. Still remember similar publicity stunts he did when expressways were opened stating that no one will be using the expressways. Look how they are been used now. The Ego and reality that his thinking is old fashion must have hit his head. I guarantee all his allegations are baseless and fabricated.
Yeah since these are super rich they will never be convicted. In-fact western countries will bring in laws legalizing setting up front companies and the problem is solved.
Apparently leaking Panama Papers and rapidly bombarding allegations against international leaders in Western country journals, had been stage managed to discredit leaders such as those of BRICS nations, though they have absolutely no involvement in these irregular transactions. It is believed the hiding of large frauds and Tax dodging on a mega scale are in Virgin Islands and Swiss banks and these are what should be leaked. So beware of blindly believing Panama Paper rumours, with no verifiable evidence.
Hmm so it’s Rs 400 billion which means the cost is Rs 20 billion per km. If Mr Anura Kumara Dissanayake hear about this he might accuse that Modi is pilfering Rs 19 billion per km. That is how naive the guy and his followers are.
I am not happy about idea of building a bridge between India and Sri Lanka. It will give lot more problems than gains. Lets keep our Island nation as it is and keep well connected to India by ferries and air.
What a horrible, horrible idea, regional integration with India will be the end of Sri Lankan sovereignty. There will be uncontrolled mass immigration of Indians to Sri Lanka, and it will be another Indian puppet state like the one they wanted to create since the time of Nehru. If you can drag the Island of Sri Lanka thousand more miles away from India then that would be the prudent thing to do…….Please stop this Monkey bridge for the sake of the future of our unborn children……
