Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake accuses Attorney General Department
July 24, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake on Friday accused Attorney General over an incident occurred when dealing with the Golden Key Depositor’s issue.
“Everyone thinks Attorney General is on our government side.
But what we see here is an act against our government. Even yesterday night there was going to be a problem,”
“Cabinet decided to pay Golden Key Depositors over one month back. But our solicitors go to the Supreme Court and say something else that we don’t want to say,”
“I don’t know who they want to satisfy. No one can override a cabinet decision.
So I’m asking the President to look into this.” Karunanayake stressed.
The cabinet of ministers, earlier approved a payment schedule proposed by the Finance Minister,Ravi Karunanayake in order to solve the long standing issues faced by the golden key depositors.
Accordingly, the depositors who have had an account balance of up to two million rupees will be paid within one month from July 24th.
The General Treasury will provide 544.
3 million rupees needed for this first tranche and the recovery of this fund will be made through the liquidation of the assets of the Golden Key Company with the permission of the Supreme Court where a petition in this regard is being heard.

I thought AG is an independent body who is responsible the for law and the order -NOT FOR UNP OR SLFP
First and formost GK having misconducts and fininal corrupation problems that directly effect
the govt. tresure funds that has nothing do with GOLDEN KEY REPAYMENT BY CABNIET DECISION . GOVT. MONEY BELONGS TO POOR TAX PAYERS THAT CANNOT MISUSED BY GK DEFAULT payments .
Now Ravi Karuanayake of Minister has decided pay for GK during elecation period is totally wrong ,we have wait next Parliment to be approved payment but not that Tresure funds , but other mens .
Payment must STOP AT ONCE AND FOR ALL.
THIS IS ANOTHER POLITICAL CORRUPATION AND VIOLATION OF FR BY UNP -RANIL-RAVI ‘GOOD GOVERANCE.’
AG must be on the rule of law side, not your side Ravi. Is your “Yahapalanaya” expects AG to take sides?
Didn’t the government categorically deny that it’s in talk with IMF for a loan and that tax increases and privatization are part of the deal? It’s evident that there is a government within our government who takes all decisions and others are just public faces.
Hopefully this will be the catalyst to build resilience for our economy and national plan in place to continue when the next government get into power. Poor people of this country should not put into trouble with economic mismanagement and favoritism. Sri Lanka blessed with extremely talented human capital. Like what government doing time to tighten the belt.
If everybody can live happily in a one country , why you need different states for different nationals ? There is no problem between people in Sri Lanka. These stupid politicians are trying to create a one among us. Such a waste of people’s votes.

The FM says “The General Treasury will provide 544.3 million rupees needed for this first tranche and the recovery of this fund will be made through the liquidation of the assets of the Golden Key Company with the permission of the Supreme Court where a petition in this regard is being heard”. First get the funds by liquidating GK assets without borrowing from the treasury. This is public funds. The supreme court ruling on the petition ruling is still unknown. This is an election gundu. I cannot understand how the President can grace the occasion when the CB governor whom he wants sacked and also the PM who was tasked to do this and who hasn’t done so were present.
