Sri Lankan President signs proclamation for early Presidential Election

Nov 20, 2014 (LBO) – Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse on Thursday signed the proclamation declaring his intention to hold a Presidential Election seeking another term, the Presidential Secretariat said.

The Official Website of the Presidential Secretariat said the main constituent of the United People’s Freedom Alliance, Sri Lanka Freedom Party Central Committee on Wednesday unanimously decided to field President Rajapaksa as the Party's candidate at the next Presidential election.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa today signed the official proclamation declaring his intention to hold a Presidential Election seeking another term.

This will be his third election for the Executive Presidency. He was first elected on 17th November 2005 and was re-elected for a second term on January 26, 2010. He took oaths as President for the second term on November 19, 2010 and completed 4 years in office on November 19, 2014.

Yesterday the main constituent of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Central Committee unanimously decided to field President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Party's candidate at the next Presidential election.
