Feb 20 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Telecom tied up with the Peradeniya University recently to support information technology research and development for application in sociology, agriculture and medicine. œThis will create a platform for researchers from various disciplines to come together and take part in research and development activities, Shoji Takahashi, Chief Executive Officer of SLT, said.

The new Information and Communication Research Network Laboratory hopes to develop specific market driven products, eventually also promoting technical linkages with Japan.

œWith this facility we intend to encourage students to pursue their post graduate research studies in this university itself without going elsewhere and to introduce dual degree programs through such collaborations H Abeygunawardena, Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University said.

Sri Lanka Telecom is the island’s largest fixed line telecom provider and is 35.2 percent owned by Japan's NTT Communications Corporation, and 49.5 percent by the Sri Lanka government. The rest is publicly held

SLT also already manages four Information and Communication Technology Training centers, in addition to the new research lab
