Jan 10, 2012 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's telecommunications regulator has drawn up a new policy that will regulate construction and use of transmission towers by mobile phone companies and radio and television stations.

A national policy on telecommunications transmission towers was required with growing competition among mobile phone providers who have put up their own towers to expand their coverage.

New entrants to the mobile phone sector have also been seeking the use of existing towers to avoid duplication.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission is seeking approval of the Cabinet of ministers for the 'National Tower Policy', TRC director general Anusha Pelpita told Vimasuma.

The new policy will regulate construction and locations of telecom towers as well as their use such as sharing by different companies, he said.
