Apr 21, 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Commercial Bank of Ceylon said customers withdrew a record 2.05 billion rupees from teller machines on Friday April 11, a new daily high in the run up to a traditional New Year holiday. The number transactions processed was 245,000 lower than a previous record of 325,000 which the bank attributes to higher withdrawal limits offered. A customer can withdraw 40,000 rupees per transaction.

79 billion rupees, set on April 10, 2013, the bank said in a statement.

The average size of the withdrawal had gone up 60 percent to 10,400 rupees from 6,500 rupees a year earlier.

The banks said its 585-terminal automated teller machines make up the largest such network owned by a single bank.
