Japan looks for investment opportunities in Sri Lanka: Finance Minister

Sep 11, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that Japan has showed interest in investing in wide areas of activities in terms of investment and infrastructure development.

“They are looking for five different activities, especially in the infrastructure area and the intention that has been displayed by them is phenomenal,” Karunanayake said. “They expressed interest in helping Sri Lanka especially in the infrastructure development projects such as expressways, ports, airports and housing,” he said.









Karunanayake met Japanese Vice Minister for Policy Coordination (International Affairs) Yasuo and Japanese Ambassador Kenichi Suganuma yesterday at the ministry premises.

“They expressed commitment to further boost bilateral ties with Sri Lanka.” He added that Japan is planning to set up a branch of a Japanese commercial bank in the island. Japan is one of the main lenders to Sri Lanka, and has been a significant contributor to infrastructure development in the island, since the 1950s, throught its development agency JICA.
