Advisory committee appointed to advise National Economic Council

The cabinet nod has been received to appoint an advisory committee to advise the National Economic Council after the council came under fire for the absence of expert economists and business leaders.

The 16-member advisory committee comprises Prof. H D Karunaratne, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dr. Dushni Weerakoon, Dhammika Perera, Krishan Balendra, Ashroff Omar, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Vish Govindasamy, S. Renganathan, Ranjit Page, Suresh de Mel, Prabash Subasinghe, Duminda Hulangamuwa, Sujeewa Mudalige, Ashok Pathirage and Mohan Pandithage.

President is the chairman of the National Economic Council and the members include Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ministers Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, Basil Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath, Secretary to the Treasury SR Attygalle, and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Dhammika Nanayakkara.
