NSBM’s Green University opened in Homagama


Oct 27, 2016 (LBO) – The National School of Business Management’s (NSBM) Green University in Pitipana, Homagama was declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday.

This is the first university in the South Asian region built to be sustainable and eco-friendly, according to the university.

The NSBM Green University comprises auditoriums, computer laboratories, a physical training center, indoor stadium, sports ground, swimming pool, student based center, a theatre equipped with all facilities and an open air theatre.

Based on a university town concept, it is equipped with a super market, a housing complex dedicated for students and lecturers as well as a bank complex. The massive library will have digital facilities will be new for libraries in the country.

The computer and engineering faculties will be open for students in the inaugural academic year. Plans are underway to introduce courses that are prepared according to the international syllabuses and have a higher demand.

Minister of Posts, Mohammed Halim presented the commemorative stamp issued on this occasion to the President. Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe presented a souvenir of the Green University model to the President.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, Ministers Mahinda Samarasinghe and Mohamed Halim, diplomats, and academics were also present.

NSBM is the degree school of National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in Management, Computing and Engineering.
