Ambassador Saman Chandrasiri Presents Credentials to the President of the State of Israel

The newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the State of Israel, Saman Chandrasiri, presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Isaac Herzog, President of the State of Israel, on 3 August 2026 at Beit HaNassi, the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.

President Herzog warmly welcomed Ambassador Chandrasiri and wished him success in his assignment in Israel. During the discussion, the President recalled with warmth the visit undertaken to Sri Lanka by his late father, former President Chaim Herzog, and noted the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

President Herzog recognized the positive contribution made by Sri Lankan workers to the Israeli economy and observed that labour relations between Sri Lanka and Israel constitute a mutually beneficial partnership. He also noted that Sri Lanka holds a special place in the hearts of Israeli travellers, who greatly appreciate the country’s natural beauty, hospitality and the memorable experiences offered by Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Chandrasiri conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of H.E. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka, and the people of Sri Lanka. He expressed Sri Lanka’s interest in further expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of agricultural technology, defence and trade. He emphasized that the strong people-to-people relations between the two countries provide a firm foundation for broadening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Ambassador Saman Chandrasiri brings twenty-five years of experience in the public service, having served in the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, he served as Manager – Training and Development, where he played a key role in institutional capacity-building, migration management and international cooperation. He has completed diploma and advanced courses in the technical areas of his expertise and has served as a resource person from the Department of Immigration and Emigration to the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and the Sri Lanka Police. He has also functioned as the Department’s liaison with several diplomatic missions based in Colombo. Ambassador Chandrasiri holds a Bachelor of Science Special Degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
