Sri Lanka Business Delegation to India: Strengthens Bilateral Trade and Opens New Opportunities for Gem & Jewellery Sector
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), with the support of the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi and the Sri Lanka Consulate in Mumbai, is organizing a Sri Lankan Business Delegation to India from 8th to 13th August 2026, with a focus on strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations and expanding opportunities for Sri Lanka’s Gem & Jewellery sector in the Indian market.
The delegation brings together Chairman, Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), Chairman National Gem & Jewellery Authority (NGJA), EDB official, industry associations; Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association, Lanka Gem Dealers & Miners Association, Ceylon Gem & Jewellery Traders Association and Gem & Jewellery companies including Gem Paradise, Punsiri Gems, Mansoor Gems, Beauty Gems, Gemluxe Ceylon, Ashadi Jewellers, GemTrad, Ceylon Gemora and Cey Gems.
During the first two days of the programme, from 8th to 9th August 2026, the Sri Lankan delegation visited the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS), held at the Jio World Convention Centre (JWCC), BKC and the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC), Mumbai.The visit to IIJS provided the Sri Lankan delegation with an opportunity to gain valuable insights into the Indian Gem & Jewellery market while engaging with leading industry stakeholders, buyers, exhibitors and IIJS members. Several meetings were held during the trade fair, with discussions focusing on strengthening bilateral trade relations, identifying new areas of cooperation and exploring opportunities to increase business linkages between Sri Lankan and Indian companies specially for gems & jewellery sector.
With India being one of the world’s major jewellery manufacturing and trading hubs, the delegation aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s presence in the Indian market while creating opportunities for Sri Lankan exporters to connect with Indian buyers, manufacturers, traders and other industry stakeholders.
A key component of the programme was the organization of several important trade and investment promotional events from 10th – 12th August 2026 with the reputed chambers in India.
On 10th August 2026 there were two meetings with the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Maharashtra Chambers of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (MACCIA). The Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of strengthening commercial relations between the two countries and encouraging greater interaction between the business communities of Sri Lanka and India. The Chairman, EDB delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the trade and investment opportunities available in both countries. Particular attention was given to opportunities for expanding bilateral trade in the Gem & Jewellery sector, including opportunities for increased sourcing, partnerships, investment and business collaborations between Sri Lankan and Indian companies. The Chairman, EDB also promoted Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled to be held from 14th to 17th January 2027 at BMICH, Colombo, inviting international trade buyers to visit the exhibition and encouraging international exhibitors, particularly companies engaged in advanced technologies, machinery and other areas relevant to Sri Lanka’s export industries, to participate in the event.
The Chairman , National Gem & Jewellery Authority (NGJA) highlighted the distinctive strengths and global reputation of Sri Lanka’s Gem & Jewellery industry. Particular emphasis was placed on the country’s renowned natural gemstones, skilled craftsmanship, industry expertise and potential to attract international investment. The presentation also highlighted the investment opportunities available within Sri Lanka’s Gem & Jewellery industry and encouraged Indian investors and business stakeholders to explore partnerships and investment opportunities with Sri Lankan companies.
As part of the promotional programme, representatives of the participating Sri Lankan Gem & Jewellery companies made individual presentations introducing their companies, products, capabilities and areas of business interest. These presentations provided Indian business representatives with a better understanding of the diverse capabilities available within Sri Lanka’s Gem & Jewellery sector and contribute towards strengthening awareness of Sri Lanka as a premium destination for ethically sourced gemstones, jewellery and value-added Gem & Jewellery products, while creating stronger commercial connections with India’s extensive jewellery manufacturing, retail and trading network.
The participating industry associations also used the opportunity to promote Sri Lanka’s leading Gem & Jewellery exhibitions and industry events, including Gem City Rathnapura, FACETS 2027 and Gem Sri Lanka.
On 11th and 12th August 2026, it has also been scheduled to organize another important trade & investment promotional events with World Trade Centre Mumbai and the All India Association of Industries, International Chamber of Investment and Business (ICIB) and Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries & Agriculture, Pune.
These events bring representatives of the business community, chambers of commerce, industry stakeholders and potential investors, creating a platform to discuss opportunities for enhancing bilateral trade and investment between Sri Lanka and India specially for gem & jewellery sector.
EDB believes that, this delegation’s engagements in India form part of Sri Lanka’s wider strategy to promote its export industries internationally and to build momentum towards Sri Lanka Expo 2027, which will provide an international platform for Sri Lankan exporters to showcase their products and services to global buyers and business partners.
