With reference to the reports in news media about the employment of World Bank Country Director's husband as a consultant at the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) , the Bank would like to clarify that:
He was appointed to the position through a competitive process by responding to an advertisement placed by SEC in local newspapers and on the Internet.
His employment in Sri Lanka as a consultant was cleared by the World Bank 's Ethics office as one without any conflict of interest.
He is paid a local salary and is employed as an international debt expert with experience of working in the U.S. and Japan. His experience enables him to contribute significantly to the development of the Sri Lanka debt market.
