US official visits Sri Lanka on de-mining
May 02, 2012 (LBO) – A senior United States official in charge of security assistance programs and policy had visited Sri Lanka and for talks with defence officials and to see the progress on de-mining, the US embassy in Colombo said.
He had also visited Kilinochchi and Vavuniya, where a 30-year civil war ended in 2009.
The US is giving 5 million dollars for de-mining this year up from 2.5 million dollars last year. Since 1993, the US has provided 34.
5 million US dollars to Sri Lanka.
Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) of State for Plans, Programs and Operations Walter D Givhan had ended a visit on May 02, after meeting Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and commanders of the army and navy.
