A top marketer says that professionals in the field should focus on a formal qualification to supplement their abilities as most marketing practitioners lack formal qualifications. A top marketer says that professionals in the field should focus on a formal qualification to supplement their abilities as most marketing practitioners lack formal qualifications. The Chairman of the Charted Institute of Marketing(CIM) who was here recently says a qualification will help take marketing professionals to the board-room level.

“There are some people who are very skilled and able to deliver but in the main many marketers are unqualified,” CIM Chairman Paul Gostick says.

“We want to change that so that marketers will be qualified like the accountants or lawyers. By virtue of that qualification they are seen to add value to the business and take responsibility for the bottom line having done that having demonstrated marketing’s ability to drive the business drive revenue and contribution then I believe marketing could earn its place at board room level and have that discussion in the language of the boardroom and be on par with the accountants.”

CIM is planning to set up a process t
