Dec 19, 2007 (LBO) – Sri Lanka has decided to revoke the work permit of SriLankan Airlines chief executive Peter Hill, an official said. The Board of Investment chief Dhammika Perera said the action was taken was in the public interest after a request from the airline’s main shareholder was turned down.
A government spokesman said the issue related to a request for seats from the presidential secretariat when President Mahinda Rajapakse was touring overseas.
SriLankan Airlines is managed by Emirates Airlines on a 10-year agreement. Emirates is also a shareholder.
Emirates and the government of Sri Lanka which is the largest shareholder of SriLankan are now in talks to renew the management agreement.
