Apr 08, 2014 (LBO) – Luxury liner MS Amadea made its maiden call at Sri Lanka’s Hambantota port with 479 passengers and visited tourist hotspots in Southern Sri Lanka, the state ports agency said. Sri Lanka Ports Authority said the 423 of the passengers were German nationals and they had day excursions to Kataragama and Udawalawe National Park.
The tours were operated by Walkers Tours with passengers being welcomed to the port with a traditional dance troupe.
MS Amadeus is operated by Phoenix Reisen, a Germany-based ruise travel firm.
The ship was represented in Sri Lanka by Ceylon Shipping Line.
Cruise calls to Sri Lanka three key ports in Colombo, Trincomalee and Hambantota has been increasing after the end of a civil war in 2009.
