Jon and his wife Fiona belong to a new breed of tourist that is increasingly flocking to Sri Lanka. Jon is interested in wildlife, particularly birds.

Before he came to Sri Lanka, he bought a book off the internet, The Photographic Guide to Birds of Sri Lanka to learn more about the bird life here and to be able to identify them.

“We’ve always heard Sri Lanka was a fantastically diverse country in terms of wildlife and particularly bird life,” says Jon Ashworth, British Nature Tourist.

“In my case I was familiar with the Sri Lankan Frog Mouth because I had seen photographs of this beautiful looking bird and this tickled my fancy,” he says.

The tsunami wiped out hundreds of smaller beachside resorts and guest houses that dotted the Sri Lankan coastline.<
