The government is trying to get United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) technical assistance in upgrading domestic airports at Ratmalana, Weerawila and Koggala.

Also on the radar screen are private helicopter services, air traffic management and evaluating project proposals for a second runway, possibly in South Sri Lanka.

The team will include officials from Airline Capital Associates Inc., selected to carry out the definition study, a statement from the Sri Lankan Embassy in the US said Monday.

The USTDA is already in the country, financing a US$ 560,000 site study for a 300 MW coal power plant as part of the country’s long term generation plans.
