Channeled through the World Bank’s International Development Association or IDA, the Sri Lankan government will also chip in with US$ 2 mn, the Finance Ministry said Tue.

Each household will get a Rs. 150,000 cash grant for fully damaged structures or Rs. 70,000 for partly damaged buildings.

To qualify, an applicants total monthly family income should be under Rs. 2,500 and submit proof for damages, earning capacity and land title.

Differently able and women headed families will get priority, the statement said.

Besides building houses, funds will also be shared to regularise land titling, facilitate land dispute settlements, skills training for construction workers, social and environmental impact assessments and technical audit of civil works.
