Google to stop sending free SMS notifications from Google calendar

May 30, 2015 (LBO) – Google has announced that they are discontinuing their free SMS notification service from Google Calendar starting 27 June 2015.

“SMS notifications launched before smartphones were available. Now, in a world with smartphones and notifications, you can get richer, more reliable experiences on your mobile device, even offline.” Google said.

To receive notifications through smartphone, Google users can use the calendar app that came with the device, or install Google Calendar for Android or iPhone.

“You can get notifications for your events through SMS on your phone. If you have a smartphone, you can get notifications through a calendar app instead.” Google said.

Google further stated that this change will not affect Google Apps for Work, Education and Government customers.
