The three year fly over project is one of six others on the cards to ease traffic jams on Colombo roads.

Cabinet Spokesperson Mangala Samaraweera on Thursday said the Treasury would allocate the funds for the project over the three years in instalements beginning in 2005.

Designs and details of the proposal are still being drawn up, with calls for tenders going out in the first quarter of 2005.

Road Development Authority (RDA) Chairman M M P Ferdinando says a new compensation plan is being formulated which promises “to ensure that all affected parties, economically or socially, will be fully compensated.”

Accordingly, affected persons will be paid a replacement value, construction costs, temporary accommodation costs, business allowances and if schooling were to become a problem the government promises assistance.
