Indian GSM users top 205 million

NEW DELHI, June 12 (Asia Pulse) – India’s GSM cellular subscriber base touched 205 million in May with the addition of
over 6.2 million new users during the month and Bharti Airtel capturing over one-third of the market. The subscriber figures excludes Reliance Telecom figures.

In April, GSM operators had added 6.5 million new users
against 6.3 million new subscribers in May, according to
industry association COAI.

During the month Bharti added 2.4 million new users taking
its cellular user base to 66 million.

Vodafone Essar followed
with the inclusion of 1.7 million new users and its subscriber
base swelled to 47.4 million.

However, BSNL continued to lagged behind in user addition
due to capacity crunch and secured only 314,000 new users. It’s
cellular subscriber base touched 36.9 million users.

group company Idea Cellular added 11 lakh new users to take its
subscriber base to 2.61 crore.

Aircel made an addition of five lakh new users and its total
user base was 11.4 million.

State run MTNL added 66,000 new
users to touch 335,000 customer base in Mumbai and Delhi.

BPL had a user base of 1.33 million users with the addition
of 17,475 new users.
