Jan 19, 2012 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s road development agency has allowed heavy vehicles to use the island’s first expressway opened late last year linking the capital Colombo with the southern town of Galle. Trucks with containers and other goods will be allowed to use the southern expressway along with buses, Road Development Authority director D B K Bandara told Vimasuma.com, our sister news website.
“We have informed motorists that vehicles using the expressway must be in good condition. If any heavy vehicles breakdown on the expressway the RDA will charge operators the cost involved in their recovery and towing.”
About 7,000 vehicles now use the expressway daily, he said.
