Tropical Pleasure (Pvt) Ltd., a unit of the boutique hotel Elephant Corridor, will splash Rs. 350 million to expand into a hotel school and buy up aristocratic homes to house discerning travelers. The firm is targeting between 10-15 aristocratic homes dotted across the old Kandyan Kingdom and the cultural triangle, to be converted into upmarket hotels.

“We are picking out aristocratic dwellings in secret locations, in areas that usually don’t feature on tired tourists trails,” the firm’s Deputy Chairman, Susanne Filippin told reporters on Thursday.

Sri Lanka’s former colonial masters left behind beautiful aristocratic homes in historical areas like Tirippane, Horuwapothana, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Bibile, which don’t feature in leisure brochures.

The promoters want to develop these colonial masterpieces, bringing back the aristocratic lifestyle, throwing in a chieftain, antique furniture, paintings and pictures from the 18th century.
