Sri Lanka apparel group Brandix to double thread making capacity in Bangladesh

Jan 30 (LBO) – American & Efird Lanka, part of top Sri Lankan apparel exporter the Brandix Group, hopes to double its thread making capacity in Bangladesh over the next year. A&E Lanka is a joint venture of Brandix Lanka, global thread manufacturer American & Efird, and Brandot International. The company manufactures sewing and embroidery thread, with a 100 metric tonnes a month facility supplying the seven billion dollar apparel industry in Bangladesh.

We are looking at least a doubling of capacity at our Bangladesh plant over the next 12 months, Irfan Thassim, Chief Executive Officer of American & Efird Lanka (A&E), said on Tuesday.

With an expanded operation, the company is hoping to service the 60-70 percent of Bangladesh’s apparel factories that is centred in the capital Dhaka.

The company also has a factory in Sri Lanka, turning out 300 metric tonnes of thread a month, supplying the needs of the local apparel trade, which is valued at just under three billion dollars.

American & Efird Lanka produces a range of sewing thread in 1050 standard colours, as well as in dyed-to-order special colours to match individual customer requirements
