Sri Lanka hotel to be managed by Thailand’s Centara

Aug 19, 2011 (LBO) - Thailand's Centara leisure group will manage a hotel in Sri Lanka's Southwestern coast which will have 160 rooms when it is expanded and refurbished next year, an official said.

Softlogic has also signed up Swiss-based Movenpick Hotels and Resorts to manage a city hotel it is building in a plush area of Sri Lanka's capital Colombo.

Ceysands is in Bentota, 65 kilometres south of Colombo on the south western coast of the island.

Formerly known as Ceysands, the 84-roomed hotel was owned by Sri Lanka's troubled Ceylonco group and was bought by another business group, Softlogic for 925 million rupees.


Softlogic chairman Ashok Pathirage said the hotel will be rebranded Centara Ceysands Resorts and Spa and upgrade to '4-star plus' standard.

In a 900 million rupees refurbishment and expansion another 80 rooms will be added to the hotel.

The hotel will be closed for rebuilding in October and will re-open next November in time for the European winter season.
