Apr 18, 2014 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent condolences to South Korea over a ferry disaster which has killed an unknown number of persons. In a message to his counterpart President Park Geun-hye, President conveyed profound condolence on behalf of the people and government of Sri Lanka to Korea and the affected families.
“I am confident that with the characteristic courage and fortitude of your people, they will be able to find the solace to overcome their sorrow,” he said.
“The Government and the people of Sri Lanka stand in solidarity with you and the people of the Republic of Korea in coming to terms with this tragedy.
A ferry carrying 475 persons, mostly school children sank Wednesday and 260 remains missing with 30 bodies recovered so far.
Rescue divers have been hampered by strong underwater currents and poor visibility.
