June 07, 2016 (LBO) – Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka rose 10 percent in May to 125,044 visitors compared with the same month last year, official data showed.
Arrivals during the first five months of the year were up 18.4 percent to 846,229 visitors, compared with the same period last year.
April, May and June are usually slower months for travelers to Sri Lanka due to concerns about the monsoon season.
During the first five months, 273,000 visitors from Western Europe and a further 78,000 from Eastern Europe made Europe the leading source of tourists by region.
South Asia accounted for 205,000 tourists, and East Asia, 176,000 tourists.
