Key stakeholders in the tea industry got together last week to form a pan industry apex body.
The tea association of Sri Lanka plans to provide a singe point of view from the industry to policy makers in the future.
” Before this association came whenever a problem arose we had to speak to several associations and coming to a consensus was difficult,” points out Plantation Industries Minister Lakshman Kiriella.
” But it makes it easy for the ministry as now we can tell them to find a solution acceptable to all.”
The association will also tackle contentious issues like the importation of tea for blending.
” Any issue could be looked into pragmatically and solved in the greater interest of all and not in the interest of one stake holder,” says Rohan Feando the Chairman of the Tea Association. (LBR)
