UNP and SLFP agrees over National Government: UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrama

Aug 26, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Freedom Party and United National Party has reached an agreement to form a national government, UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrama said.

Releasing a special statement Samarawickrama said both parties had to sacrifice things for the sake of the country’s progress.

“We came to an agreement subsequent to the friendly and comprehensive discussions held with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to form a national government,” Samarawickrama said.

“Our prime concern has been to elevate the motherland to a higher echelon of development and not about ministerial portfolios and other perquisites.” he said.

The two parties recently singed a memorandum of understanding to establish a national government at least for a period of two years.

Meanwhile Professor Vishwa Warnapala has assumed official duties as the new General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance today.

Susil Premajayanth who held the post of UPFA General Secretary from 2004 handed over his resignation letter yesterday.
