U.S. Ambassador Eric Meyer Arrives in Sri Lanka, Presents Credentials
On August 25, 2026, U.S. Ambassador Eric Meyer presented his credentials to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, marking the formal commencement of his ambassadorial tenure.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Meyer said: “It was an honor to present my credentials to President Dissanayake. The United States is proud to call Sri Lanka a friend in a partnership that has spanned more than 78 years. I look forward to further strengthening the U.S. – Sri Lanka relationship and unlocking new economic opportunities, deepening our security cooperation, and advancing a free, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.”
Ambassador Meyer arrived in Colombo on the evening of August 22, 2026, to assume his duties as the 29th United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka. Prior to his assignment in Sri Lanka, he served as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., at the U.S. Mission to Norway and, before that, as Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the Department of State.
