Soft Landing


Software giant Microsoft Corp on Wednesday announced a multi-million dollar tie-up with Sri Lanka, to provide education, training and an eventually set up a development unit.
Microsoft will provide investments over a five year period, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington said in a release.rn

rnThe deal was stitched up during Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghes meetings with US President George W. Bush. rn

rnThe Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Minister for Economic Reform, Science & Technology, Milinda Moragoda and President, Microsoft Asia Pacific, Sanjay Mirchandani.rn

rn"We wish to contribute to the building of a healthy IT ecosystem and provide the community with technology, tools and training to help close the digital divide and build a brighter future," said Brad Smith, Microsoft Senior Vice President and General Counsel. rn

rnMicrosofts local subsidiary and country headquarters are due to be up and running by the end of this year. rn
