Oct 26, 2018 (LBO) – EU Ambassador Tung-Lai Margue participating in the 7th Edition of EU Dialogue that was held last week, has appreciated the encouraging progress being made by Sri Lanka to resolve investor issues. This meeting was held with several issues relating to EU companies in Sri Lanka being taken up for resolution. The EU Dialogue was held under the co-leadership of Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama, and EU Ambassador Tung-Lai Margue. During the session, Ambassador Margue expressed his encouragement at the progress that had been made since the start of this process. “Out of 38 issues put forward 17 issues have been resolved already. This platform is a practical tool and a way that we can really redefine the business norms in Sri Lanka," Margue said. "For the EU, this dialogue means as much as GSP Plus for Sri Lanka”. He thanked Minister Samarawickrama for holding these meetings regularly and also giving support to hold meetings with other ministers relating to issues faced by EU businesses. The EU Dialogue is a joint effort between the EU Delegation in Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade that was started in January 2017 to improve the regulatory and business environment in the country in order to increase trade and investment between EU and Sri Lanka. The Minister observed that many of the pending items are cross-cutting issues amongst many ministries and state institutions and the Ministry will play a key role in supporting resolving these.
