I request that we all respect law and order and act peaceably especially after the results are announced – PM

November 16, 2019 (LBO) - Statement from the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe on today's Presidential election:

"Through the 19th Amendment, we have established independent commissions and created a democratic, legal and peaceful environment throughout the country. All arrangements have been made to hold tomorrow's Presidential election in this newly created environment.

Election Commission of Sri Lanka has implemented all necessary arrangements for a free & fair election. The armed forces & police have been advised to provide necessary security to support this. As citizens, it is our duty and responsibility to give maximum support to relevant authorities & officials.

What we should do is further strengthen this democratic environment. As Sri Lankans we should ensure that we do not create an uncivilized political culture as in the past. Therefore, I call upon all of you to support our country by participating in this election peacefully.

I request that we all respect law and order and act peaceably especially after the results are announced."
