The 2005-Budget goodies will not extend to paternity leave on top of all the other sweeties, says the Sri Lankan government to disappointed Sri Lankan men. In November the UPFA government, in its budget for next year, tripled the current maternity leave quota for Sri Lankan working women.
But when it comes to paternity leave, "no. Paternity leave is not under consideration," said the government’s media spokesman Mangala Samaraweera, at a Cabinet press briefing on Thursday.
The budget increased the current 84 working days – or four months – of maternity leave to one year, by allowing another 84 days of leave at half salary and a final 84 days of no-pay leave.
The move is meant to protect family life and children’s’ welfare but the government is already complaining about the abundance of religious and national holidays in Sri Lanka that eats into productivity.

According to a UPFA survey, Sri Lankans enjoy the highest number of holidays in the world.
"We did a survey of 165 count
