Remittances from foreign employees amount to around 7 billion US dollars despite volatility in the Middle East.

Sri Lanka’s 2017 budget proposed to introduce a contributory pension scheme for overseas employees.

The government said through the Kuwait Fund it will match the contribution made by the employee and the pension would be drawn at the age of 60 years by the beneficiary.
