Sri Lanka stocks close lower

Dec 02, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka stocks closed lower with telco and diversified stocks losing ground amid foreign selling, brokers said. The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index closed 0.99 points lower at 5,774.10, down 0.02 percent. The S&P SL20 closed 8.75 points lower at 3,165.88, down 0.28 percent.

Turnover was 835.08 million rupees, up from 254.12 million rupees a day earlier, with stocks of 91 firms closing in the red against 64 gainers.

JKH closed 1.00 rupee lower at 209.90 rupees with market transactions of 204.12 million rupees contributing to 25 percent of total turnover.

Orient Garments closed 30 cents higher at 8.00 rupees with off market transactions of 126.40 million rupees contributing to 15 percent of total turnover.

Foreigners brought 167 million rupees worth shares while selling 199 million rupees of shares.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 1.40 rupees lower at 37.90 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 8.50 rupees lower at 361.50 rupees, contributing most to the index drop.

Bukit Darah closed 14.40 rupees lower at 625.00 rupees and Distilleries closed 4.00 rupees lower at 185.00 rupees.

JKH’s W0022 warrants closed flat at 57.00 rupees and its W0023 warrants closed 40 cents higher at 63.50 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 50.00 rupees higher at 1,100.00 rupees and Lanka Orix Leasing Company closed 5.00 rupees higher at 70.00 rupees.

Aitken Spence closed 20 cents higher at 106.90 rupees and Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 2.60 rupees higher at 66.70 rupees.

Lanka Orix Finance closed 20 cents higher at 3.00 rupees and Lanka IOC closed 80 cents higher at 33.10 rupees.

Commercial Bank closed flat at 116.00 rupees and HNB closed 1.60 rupees lower at 143.30 rupees.

Cargills Ceylon closed flat at 151.00 rupees and Nestle Lanka closed 10.00 rupees lower at 1,925.00 rupees.

Sampath Bank closed 1.50 rupees lower at 165.00 rupees and DFCC closed 1.00 rupee lower at 120.00 rupees.

Ceylinco Insurance closed 42.90 rupees lower at 1,240.10 rupees and Touchwood Investments closed flat at 3.00 rupees.

Lanka Ceramic closed flat at 107.50 rupees with the appointment of its new chief executive officer Navindra Anton Abeyesekera.
