Sri Lanka’s Altair residential tower to be built by Shapoorji Pallonji

Feb 11, 2014 (LBO) - A 68-storey lakefront apartment tower tipped to be tallest residential tower in South Asia when completed in 2017 will be built by Shapoorji Pollonji International, a Dubai based construction firm, its promoters said.

The 'Altair' luxury condominium project by the Beira lake in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo will be 240 metres tall and is made up of a 68-storey vertical tower and a leaning 63-storey tower.

Indocean Developers, a Sri Lanka based company set up by Kolkota based entrepreneurs said Shapoorji Pollonji has been appointed the main contractor for the project.

Also started by Indian entrepreneurs, the construction firm had built Park Towers Dubai, the Palace of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said of Oman, The Taj Intercontinental Hotel Mumbai and the Hilton Riyadh.

Altair will be the tallest residential tower in South Asia, equalling the Imperial Towers of Mumbai, which were also built by Shapoorji Pallonji, Altair director Jugal Khetawat said.

It was designed by Moshe Safdie, the architect responsible for Marina Bay Sands development in Singapore.

The 250 million US dollar project will have 400 apartments.
