œWe won’t remove army barriers from North: Maithripala

Jan 01, 2015 (LBO) –Sri Lanka’s common opposition Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena said, that his government would not remove the military barriers from one war ravaged Northern parts of the island. œWe will not remove any army barriers from North. However, we will make an environment for the Sinhalese, Tamils and the Muslims to live peacefully, Sirisena said at a meeting held yesterday.

œLook at who has gathered around us .We have Sarath Fonseka with us who helped to destroy terrorism in the Island. Do you think he will allow terrorism to rise its head up again?

Sri Lanka suffered from a war for 30 years with Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam which ended under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

However, many civic groups and political parties had made requests to the government and others to remove or cut back on the military presence in the North to bring civilian rule to the region.
