Sep 16, 2020 (LBO) – The Minister of Power and Energy, Dullas Alahapperuma has instructed the officials of the Kelanitissa Power Plant to restore the generation activities in the next few weeks.
The Minister expressed these views while participating in a visit to monitor the current condition of the Kelanitissa Power Plant yesterday (15) afternoon.
Kelanitissa Combined Cycle Power Plant owned by the Ceylon Electricity Board has been inactive since October 2019.
Parts of the plant have been sent to India for repairs due to a mechanical fault and the machines have not been repaired due to the corona pandemic that affected the entire world.
Minister Alahapperuma said that steps would be taken to repair the malfunctioning machinery of the power plant and bring it back to Sri Lanka as soon as possible.
In line with the President’s vision of prosperity, the contribution of green and renewable energy should be increased to 70 percent.
