Apr 29, 2010 (LBO) – Shree FM, a radio station run by Sri Lanka’s the E A P Edirisinghe group, has won a top US broadcasting award for a community service program which helped people in remote areas, the broadcaster said. NAB is the highest award presented to non-US
radio and television stations to recognize their leadership in advancing the broadcast industry and for the services they provide to their community and audiences, the company said.

Shree FM had received the 2010 International Broadcasting Excellence award from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) of the US, for its Shree Sathkaraka Rohala, a programme that provides free mobile medical services to people in remote areas.

“We are very grateful that our radio station has been acknowledged as one of this year’s recipients,” Jeewaka Edirisinghe, managing director of E A P Edirisinghe Organisation said.

“This is a huge honour for our organisation and most importantly, an honour for the entire nation as it makes us an inspiration to broadcast companies worldwide.”

Shree FM is operated by Colombo Communications Ltd, a unit of the EAP Edirisinghe group also runs E FM and Ran FM stations in the isaldn.
